Exchange software

Does anyone know how dozens of display screens are updated every second in stock exchanges?

Surely the server is pushing data to every screen, bud is this common technology or some well-known technology like MSMQ?

Are there any tutorials, books, or anything else for the architecture of such software?

Hello

I believe this is commonly referred to as Messaging. From RabbitMQ :

What is messaging? Messages describe the sending and receiving of data (in the form of messages) between systems. The exchange of messages between programs or applications is similar to how people communicate by email, but with guarantees for delivery, speed, security and no spam.

The messaging infrastructure (aka message-centric middleware, aka corporate service bus) makes it easier for developers to create complex applications by decoupling individual software components. Rather than passing directly, a messaging infrastructure facilitates the exchange of data between components. Components need to know nothing about each other's status, availability, or implementation that allows them to be distributed across heterogeneous platforms and off and on as needed.

By adopting this architecture, the developer is isolated from the knowledge of the various operating systems and network interfaces involved and compatibility, scalability and flexibility of the application is improved.

Please check out this presentation on why you might need messaging for a general introduction or this Wikipedia page for more information.

One of the popular paradigms for implementing messaging is publish / subscribe . Some implementations are implemented using point-to-point communication over TCP, some use multicast over TCP / UDP.

For stock displays, including other financial software that provides real-time prices, prices are passed on to customers rather than allowing them to periodically request information (polling.) This is done to ensure prices are as close to real-time as possible.

This is usually proprietary software, with all information providers (Reuters, Bloomberg, etc.) supplying their own client libraries and / or applications. Most of the big banks (or at least the ones I worked for) use Sun enterprise-grade servers and Windows POS workstations.

I believe they are using their own protocol over TCP / IP. Each display connects to an internal local area network and requests information as needed.
