Is it possible to open a URL in an external browser from an HTML component?

I am loading a web page inside an HTML component in AIR. By default, when something is clicked, the next page is loaded inside the HTML component itself. I want links from this page to open in an external web browser.

Is this even possible?

You need to set the navigateInSystemBrowser property. Check out this code:
