Is there a way to get Visual Studio to unload the DLL?

I have a Visual Studio 2008 project with some old native C ++ DLL projects and some new WPF projects that use DLLs. When I open WPF xaml windows in designer, Visual Studio loads native DLLs to be able to display the window.

The problem is that if I need to make changes to legacy DLLs, I need to close all WPF windows and restart visual studio to be able to create them. Obviously I need to close the tabs that are using the DLLs, but after that I can tell Visual Studio can unload those DLLs without a complete restart?

I had similar problems. Slightly better than restarting is removing the DLL references and then adding the references back.

Sounds like a bug in VS. You can try getting VS 2008 SP1 to see if it fixes this. Otherwise go here and report it: http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio . They will help with any workaround if there is one.
