Some form of progress bar when loading something in ASP.NET?

Is there an easy way to show some form of progress bar in your form in ASP.NET that the code is busy in the background (which means thinking)? Like the IE standard, there is a small little window on top that moves when its thinking ..........

I've done this before with Ajax, but its a lot of work and my site is not an Ajax enabled site.

I believe JQuery UI has a progress bar component, it might be worth looking at.

I am using jQuery BlockUI plugin . Quite easy to set up and very cool looking especially when using jgrowl .
