Oracle -Character encoding
I have a particular problem where I need to update a specific value in the database to say "Hellò". When I run the normal update statement, the values are updated perfectly. But when I put it in the .sql script file and then run the update statement, the last character is replaced with the junk mail value. Can anyone enlighten me on this and how the oracles handle script files?

If the update statement works, it is not a database character encoding problem, so there are two main culprits; your software and the encoding of your file.
Check that your editor is UTF8 compliant. For example, Notepad is not, but Wordpad is, and therefore better than editors such as UltraEdit. You also need to check that the file is saved as UTF8, as this is not always the default and if you edited and saved the file using Notepad, for example, it will no longer be UTF8.
Once you have a UTF8 file, you must upload it to the database using software that supports UTF8, which excludes SQLPlus on Windows 10g. The SQL developer is fine. If you want to use SQLPLus please upgrade your client to 11g. You don't say how you download it, so make sure everything you use supports UTF8.
