Architectural solution: QT platform or Eclipse?
We are developing an instrument for use with HDEM (High Resolution Electron Microscope). We get stacks of 2D images from HDEM and the first step is "edge detection" on the plots. After detecting the edges of the 2D slices, the next step is to build the 3D model using those 2D slices.
This boundary detection algorithm is used / implemented by one of the professors, and he used and suggests using C. (to get high performance and likely to be parallelized in the future) We have to develop a complete user interface, 3D viewer, 2D editor ... etc. And use this algorithm.
The application should support normal functionality like saving project /open.Undo, repeat ... etc.
Our technological solutions:
A) Build the entire platform from using QT.
B) Using the Eclipse Platform
Our problems:
if we choose A), we can easily integrate the boundary detection algorithm as a C / C ++ development environment. But we have to implement the basic functionality from scratch.
If we choose B), we get the basic functionality of the Eclipse platform, but integrating C libraries becomes a tedious task.
Any suggestions on this?

If you want performance and a well-controlled process, I would suggest switching to Qt.
Qt has a well-documented class library that should make the implementation of basic functionality fairly simple and intuitive. It also supports OpenGL for 3D and good 2D editing capabilities.
I recently created a monitoring app with a UI and it was pretty easy once you walked through the basic concepts behind the platform.
