How do I open a copied project in Visual Studio?

I copied the whole project to my computer, both in My Documents / Visual Studio and inetpub / wwwroot, but when I try to open the project in Visual Studio, it only tries to open 1 .vssproj file and gives me error messages like : "The project file cannot be loaded. The application for the project ... is not installed." What am I doing wrong?

I had the same exact error when double clicking on a file as opposed to going to VS and its menu to open it. The problem seems to be related to file associations.

If VS 2005 has not been updated to SP1 then the web application project (not the website) will give this error.

As others have said, without knowing the specific error, it is difficult to help. However, sln and csproj files are just text files, you can always just open them in notepad and search and replace with any obvious path problems. This is often faster than creating a new project and adding all files / links.

Without specifying the specific error, it's hard to help you, but I'm guessing the file paths in the project file are wrong. Try to create a new project and manually add files and see if you have the same errors.

Without specific error messages, it's difficult, but if you have a complete solution from the original machine and not just one project, you might want to try copying instead.
