Windows 7 64 / Visual Studio 2008 / OpenCV2.1 error: "The application could not start correctly (0xhex) .."

I am building OpenCV2.1 from the top of the branch in 64 bit mode, when I link libraries with my code (which works in 32 bit mode on XP) I get a dialog:

"The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0150002) Click OK to close the application."

When I run the application. Event Viewer points to one of the OpenCV DLLs and says it is a side error, but I am definitely building OpenCV and my code is like a 64-bit compiler and there are no errors in the process. I've tried messing around with the / MTd options and it doesn't help. Some (almost) related questions suggested installing the VS2008 redistributable package, but I'm building with vs2008 pro which seems crazy? Still need to install the package in my case?

Any help including the cause of these side errors would be appreciated.

James

I had the same problem when I just downloaded OpenCV-2.1.0-win32-vs2008.exe.

all you need is to reinstall the OpenCV libraries and dlls following the instructions here http://opencv.willowgarage.com/wiki/VisualC++_VS2010_CMake .

CMake 2.8.2 is enough BTW.

I had the same problem with an application of my own that uses the C ++ xerces library. It didn't work on Windows Vista / 7 64 bit in debug mode, but works fine in Release mode.

The solution was to recompile the xerces c ++ library in debug mode on my own machine. For some reason the released binaries for VC ++ 10 did not work very well on Vista / 7 64-bit
