Does Dojo work offline? Are there any alternatives?

I am working on a web application that needs to work offline. I'm watching Gears right now, but I also found Dojo offline . I'm asking this question because the latest news is from 2007 and the posted demos doesn't seem to work (I "Installed Gears under Firefox 3.0 on my Ubuntu laptop") Is anyone using Dojo offline or an alternative high-level online tool for web applications right now?

Dojo Offline is likely to support offline HTML5 features in future browsers (for example, the latest release of Firefox for version 3.5), or revert to using Gears if the user is not on an HTML5-enabled browser. Thus, Dojo Offline provides an abstraction layer above the actual implementation that allows you to adapt to newer standalone technologies without having to modify your own code.

Like the website you link to states, Dojo Offline is built on top of Gears. The only reason you want to use Dojo Offline is to use the Dojo toolkit for other features on your site.

It works, although the documentation is still a mess. Check out Dojo's online hello world .

Dojo offline has been deprecated for some time (the latter is available in version 1.3, currently up to version 1.5).
