What workflow should you use to edit JavaScript?
Warning: I have very little JavsScript experience.
In my past programming experience, I usually have a standalone interpreter / compiler, text editor and command line to compile and run my software or my tests (I love test driven development). I really like this, as I have a feeling of complete control over the instruments. However, while editing JavaScript, I need to put the instructions in a text file, open my web browser and hit reload. I don't like this as I cannot figure out what is going on (apart from some warning boxes).
Can you suggest me (I'm on a Mac) a different workflow? Maybe with a debugger? Is there a separate JavaScript interpreter?

Firebug has a javascript debugger , console and command line . I couldn't live without him.
Firebug is a Firefox extension. They have firebug lite for other browsers.
As for the workflow ... Ctrl+ S, Alt+ Tab, F5over and over.

I would check the validation there too, use jslint either through one of the available command line tools or, for example, through. Aptana, which has built-in validation. A simple build script setup is also preferred. I do this with all my projects and let it handle validation, conditional code (debug versions, etc.) and minify.
This one http://github.com/oyvindkinsey/easyXDM/blob/master/build.xml is for example a build setup for easyXDM. It does everything from pushing new versions to the site to creating documentation and zip files.
