JavaScript to Flash and vice versa?

I am completely unfamiliar with flash. We need to load the binary from the user system (should work in Flash 9) and execute some process in flash and save it back to the filesystem. I think this would have to be done by fetching the file in JavaScript and then coding it in order to send it to Flash.

Local file system access is found in Flash 10 with File Link . You're out of luck if you target Flash 9.

you can also create a Flash JavaScript file and create a SWF window with full file access. However, this can never be used on the internet.
