How do you port a Windows based application written in Delphi to different platforms like Mac, iPhone and web application?

It is currently just a Windows based application (slow motion guitar software) written in Delphi. However, I have plans to port them to the following platforms:

  • Mac
  • iPhone
  • Web

How can I do it? What programming language are you using? What developers should I be looking for? And how long will these projects last?

If you want to keep your Delphi code, check out Lazarus / FreePascal . I have to say that I haven't used it for more than Hello World yet, so you should rate yourself if it can help you, but it's free and supports Windows / Mac / Linux. Windows Mobile is also supported.

For 1 and 2 you will be looking at Cocoa, for 3 you can either go Flash / Java Applet / Silverlight depending on how complex the software is. Obviously Flash won't be the best for big projects. But Silverlight and Java Applets are supported platforms that can meet any need.

I'm afraid you can't just "port" your Delphi code to all of these environments. Ok, moving Delphi logic via Delphi.NET to a website can be easy, but using delphi code for Mac or iPhone ... More difficult. You will probably have to rewrite it from scratch, most likely in Java.

Thanks for this. I've already thought about it. Yes, I am thinking about throwing Delphi to a website and starting from scratch for websites because I've heard so much about the power of Java. Though my only limitation is that the Delphi (Windows) application will run, especially now that some features are improving it. Is there some code in Delphi that can be saved for Java?
