The problem with the OTA midlet

After installing my midlet on my phone over the air, I get a blank page from the browser that needs to be closed manually.

  • Any idea how to prevent this?

  • I read that JAD files are no longer required as all the information is in the JAR. I tried to use JAR files instead of JAD, but browsers are loaded with them first and only then it offers to install middle. With JAD it suggests to install first which IMHO is more user-friendly. Is this the expected behavior, or can it be improved to remove the need for JAD?

I am using Eclipse MJT (formerly called EclipseME).

The JAD file makes it easy to sign and deploy your application.

I would definitely not expect all phones to be able to install an app from just a JAR.

Without further information, I see two reasons why a blank web browser page will be left on the screen after installing jad:

  • error in phone firmware. The phone not only fails to load the jar without launching the full web browser, but it also forgets to close the browser window. It happens.

  • your application asks the phone to notify the remote computer after installation. The MIDP specification has a standard application property. it can be in jad or manifest.
