Large SQL table. Is there a better way than ntext?

I am trying to fix a legacy system. This is a VB6 application in SQL DB. They have a database table that is above the gig. It doesn't really have many lines. The reason is a lot of RTF text that is stored in the ntext field. Is there a way to reduce the size of the table without major operation in the application?

Thanks a lot Mark

What's broken? If it works I would say leave it. Otherwise, describe the problem. Concert is by no means a prohibitive table size, especially. if multiple lines.

Have you looked at the free space of this database using Management Studio / Enterprise Manager? Perhaps it has a lot of free space inside old deleted data, or maybe the log has grown too large and may be truncated.
