Independent (ASP) .net Object Cache?

I wonder if something like Velocity exists but for internal use?

Essentially a .net cache object that I will be installing on the server and that says WCF (or something more appropriate?) To my applications - mostly ASP.net, but possibly WinForms.

Objects should be persistent if possible, but persist in memory most of the time. In my plans, objects are rarely updated (new ones can be added often, but existing ones are rarely updated), but they are often read.

Ok I think I forgot something, Velocity seems to be hosted internally. For some reason, I thought I always had to use Microsoft Data Centers, but it looks like it has a server component.



I leave this open, in case anyone else knows of another caching server, it's always good to know the alternatives.

You can host HttpRuntime in IIS, your WinForms application, etc.
