Help system for Flash / Flex / AIR

I am building a desktop application in Flex / AIR and one of the current items on my TODO list is Help Development.

There are several buttons (?) Throughout the GUI. When the user clicks one of these buttons, a HelpPanel appears, displaying some relevant information from the documents.

Simple enough.

But I really would like to create a full-fledged help system, just like the ones that are typically deployed in desktop applications: hierarchical table of contents, keyword searches, hyperlinks between help topics, etc.

Additionally, since my application will provide an API for plugin authors, I would also like to provide hooks for third party plugins in order to integrate my own documentation into the main help system.

In my application, the user may not always be online, so all help data must be available locally (although it would be great if new help content could periodically sync from the server).

Building such a help system from scratch would be relatively easy, but it would also take a long time to actually develop the core functionality of my application, so I would prefer to use a ready-made solution.

I did a bit of a search but can't find anything that matches the bill.

Any suggestions?

You can use the AIR html control to display html help files that are linked to links in your application and built using any number of available tools to create HTML help screens.

If you create it using a regular web server directory and file structure, there are many tools to keep your files in sync.

This link links to the AIR help system and the possible RoboHelp interface.

Here is a link to the RoboHelp packer.
