Small apps for Windows Form Chat apps?

I have a small application in which I create a chat application, so far I have the ability to send messages!

I do not need a login as there will only be a small number of users and I will use their username for identification.

Has anyone done something like this? What else do I need to add? It's not necessary for everyone to sing and dance as it is only intended for use by a small development team.

Any ideas would be great!

thanks

A couple of thoughts:

  • System tray icon, easily hidden / restored, etc.
  • Since you have Windows accounts, send them an email (if you have an email exchange / announcement integration) if they are offline.
  • Autostart on Windows startup
  • Click-once / Auto Update
  • Web versions and / or mobile versions.
  • Copy / Paste (with the ability to paste images)
  • Not sure if this is useful, but it would be cool: send a message to this "bot" ... fake username ... like the name of a distribution group, sends an email to a distribution group and then emails sent to that group mailings are sent to this conversation
  • "Show another user my screen" → mini-screen, etc.
  • Initial control / error control.

Just some random thoughts, let me know how it turns out.

Chat Histoty;)

SSL-enabled communication

Requirement: It should not add unnecessary vulnerabilities to the system as it is related to Windows authentication + There are open ports. Thus, there are good chances of something going wrong.

Would it be helpful to bring new messages to your users' attention without stealing focus, perhaps using a hook in Snarl's messaging program , which is similar to Growl on Mac OS X?

This means you will need to install Snarl on each of your workstations.
