Slow request stops apache from receiving a response

I have a problem where I cannot query the mysql db until other queries are done. This happens when I run a heavy sql query (30 seconds) from apache or when I run a series of sql queries from the same apache query.

Since my queries are fetching only (no updates or modifications and no transactions) I think it is possible to run simulation queries. How can I make this possible?

I am using Zend_Db :: factory ($ config-> db-> adapter, $ dbConfig); I'm not sure if this is limiting connections or trying to use the same connection. I manually close the connection between each call in a "series of calls".

You probably have a connection pool set up in Apache where connections end. I'm not sure which module you are using in apache, but if its mod_dbd then check your parameter DBDMax
