Can rt.jar be compressed with ProGuard?

Is there a procedure by which you can optimize / trim / select / obfuscate only classes or methods / fields used by your application from rt.jar provided by Sun using some optimization software such as ProGuard (or perhaps , different?) then can you really significantly reduce the size of the downloadable application and make it more secure? Right?

From ProGuard Website :

runtime classes from Sun Java 6

Original size: 53

After compression: 23M

After optimization: 22 M

After obfusc .: 18 M

Total reduction: 66%

I recently saw a Pack200 application that seems to interest you in.

Project Jigsaw will modulate Java / JRE (7) so only modules are loaded.

Sun / Oracle JRE binary license does not allow a subset of Java Runtime or mess with rt.jar . There are a few additional files that you can remove when linking the JRE with your application, but that won't matter much.

So, wait for JDK 7, or check out Sun's approved way to reduce the download size of your Java application .
