On iPhone OS, what is a UTI a plain text file?

I am trying to use the UIDocumentInteractionController mechanism in iPhone OS 3.2, but I am struggling to figure out how to create the UTI it likes.

I got to the point of installing public.plain-text

, but it's hard to check if this is the correct UTI for a regular text document, since I can't tell if the problem is that my iPad doesn't have apps that support simple text imports. (I figured there would be pages, but maybe not, as it will try and fail to download files with an extension .pages

regardless of the UTI).

Any experienced OS X developers who can help with this?

According to the Uniform Type Identifiers Reference , it public.plain-text

appears to be the correct UTI for text files.

If you want to see what a UTI app is responding to, you can grab its .ipa file (from the mobile app directory in your iTunes library), rename it to a ZIP file, extract the content, and find the .plist information in your app bundle. Within this list of properties there should be a key CFBundleDocumentTypes

, under which there should be a list of UTIs processed by this application.

Then you can check your UIDocumentInteractionController by specifying one of these well known UTIs.
