ADO.NET Known Issues?
So, I am starting a new project at my company, and it is very large. We are going to use .NET 3.5 and I want to know if there are any bugs or performance issues that could lead to strange behavior for my project? I am reading something about EFv4 and all they say is that EFv3.5 has too many problems.
In the end, what's the best and fastest way to do ADO.NET Entities or retrieve data from my database directly into the DataReader? Is the EF Oracle provider stable?
The project will be .NET 3.5 and Oracle.

The first problem you will run into will be the Oracle / EF obstacle. Since neither Oracle nor MS provide one, you will have to go third party. There are several options .

I also think that your question might be better answered by asking "Which ORM should I use a given technology X". You should choose an ORM based on your requirements and constraints.

Well if you were looking for EF you might as well consider Nhibernate which is much better in my experience. At work we tried both options and chose the second one because you can also write a raw Sql (hql) query in it.
If you still decide to use Ado i and the project size is large, you will need an amount of discipline to not mess with sql query strings.
PS: Forgot to mention that NHibernate also supports linq which also generates better and cleaner SQL queries compared to EF.
