How can you make a website to accept files?

I am using Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 2008 Team Suite to create a website for a site. On some pages, the response is a file download (usually a PDF) and I just need to check that the response is returning with the correct status code and content type, ignoring the body. When I run a web test in Visual Studio or run a compiled test with MSTest and load the results, these requests fail, causing the entire web test to fail.

The Web Browser tab of the test results has the text:

Request failed: Unable to read data from the transport connection: The connection was closed.

And the Details tab contains an exception:

System.IO.IOException: Unable to read data from the transport connection: The connection was closed.
   at System.Net.ConnectStream.EndRead (IAsyncResult asyncResult)
   at Microsoft.VisualStudio.TestTools.WebStress.DataCaptureStream.EndRead (IAsyncResult asyncResult)
   at Microsoft.VisualStudio.TestTools.WebStress.WebTestTransaction.ReadResponse (IAsyncResult result)

The Response tab shows a successful response with headers including HTTP / 1.1 200 OK and Content-Type: application / pdf, and the PDF content in the body.

How can I get the website to accept PDFs or other file types for these requests?

There is a bug in Visual Studio Team 2008 SP1 that shows symptoms like this. Try installing a hotfix for it. More details here: http://kbalertz.com/972678/successfully-recorded-Visual-Studio-System-authentication-redirected-logon.aspx

sounds like a browser issue, to be honest, use the / unknown type to force the save like on the client, not the default browser trying to display it.
