Debian Package and Control File Localization

Is there a way to provide localized versions of Debian packaging control files (e.g. changelog, control and copyright)?

The format is outlined in the Debian Policy Manual chapters 4 and 5. I don't see any provisions for localization. I suspect this is because control

both are changelog

heavily handled by the machine; which allows field names to change risks, greatly complicating the mechanisms that come with them. It is a bad idea to localize copyright

because it is supposed to be a verbatim copy of the copyright declaration upstream: also, being a legal document, translation is risky.

In addition, most users never see these files. Why do you want to localize them?

It depends on the type of text you want to translate. I suggest taking a look at the developer's link ( 8.1. How translations are done in Debian ).

As far as I know, changelog.Debian

translation support is not supported, and package description translations are supported independently of packages. Until now, tha files copyright

were plain text files, so it was possible to include translations into the same file.
