Installing Android on a mobile
Can Android be installed on a regular mobile phone?
I have a Sony Ericsson Naite that only has a keyboard interface (no touch). I would like to install Android in my phone to experiment with it. It will be great if it can be connected to Android with Symbian :-).
Do I need any other special hardware to install the operating system on a mobile phone? Will Android work on mobile?
Any pointer / suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Naite is a fairly simple handset powered by the Sony Ericsson JP8 platform.
End users do not have to update the firmware on the phone.
Only Sony-Ericsson partners need to get the PC software to update the firmware, and only Sony-Ericsson is supposed to be able to create new firmware.
(you might be able to jailbreak the phone so you boot to Android or symbian, but that would be unsupported behavior that no one guarantees)
If you would like to experiment with creating your own Android firmware, I suggest purchasing an ADP2 phone from Google.
If you would like to experiment with creating your own Symbian firmware, I suggest buying a Texas Instrument Zoom 2 device as it is the reference platform for Symbian.
By the way, Zoom 2 also supports Android.
If you just want to experiment with developing apps on both platforms, I suggest using the two SDKs and emulators first.
There are some pretty cheap Symbian phones out there, especially the Series60 3rd edition, and depending on where you live, you might even find a Pay-As-You-Go Android phone like the Pulse.
