Is there a good API for blacklisted domains?

just curious if a good service was paid or unpaid, where can I send either the user's email address or domain from their email address and return if they are a known spammer or not?

Spammers usually spoof their email address (sometimes using the email addresses of legitimate users like you). They don't need to know their password, they just pretend to send it on your behalf. The same applies to domains. Using one of these to detect spam is likely to be inaccurate.

The email headers (your email software should provide some way to see this) should actually provide information about the IP address where the email originated from. The IP address is one of the few ways to check for spam. You can check it first using something like MX Toolbox to check for multiple blacklists (including spam house)



Other ways to identify spam include DKIM and SPF. Usually your email provider should automatically check for them and score for spam if they don't work with either SKIM or SPF.

As Chuck said, this would not be a useful method of preventing email spam. There are other methods of searching for content and sampling if the email is spam or does not use tokenizer methods. I suggest you take a look at SpamBayes
