When does Hibernate install other than download?

I know Hibernate calls setters when looking up a bean.

But I recently noticed that the setter was being called by Hibernate when we weren't doing any lookups. We created a POJO and then called save. Why is Hibernate calling setters in this case?

Update : The call to the setter seems to happen when we actually call delete()

into the Hibernate object. Why is Hibernate calling the setter in this case?

As far as I know, it shouldn't be.

Hibernate will call the setter on any generated fields, such as any generated IDs. They may have expanded it to cover all fields if the field is updated by a trigger during save or in some such case with an edge.
