Paypal cc checkout from site using cURL or Paypal API?

I have a cc form on the site. After the client fills out the form and in the background (using curl, fsock, etc. Or via API calls), can the cc details be confirmed with Paypal? does any API exist? It's kind of like authorize.net payment integration.
