SWF is not a media container like MP4 or AVI. It has many things more like vector data for graphics, ActionScript code, and so on. It can also embed FLV files as resources.

So, there is no point in trying to convert SWF to FLV directly with FFMPEG. You can try to extract resources using a tool like SWF Extractor to get the FLV file and then use FFMPEG to convert it to another format like AVI or MP4.

Two thoughts:

  • Are you really sure SWF has FLV embedded?
  • Decompile SWF into separate components. It might be too complex or has multiple FLVs in it or some other metadata like the problem
