Deflate zlib vs Gzip compression on apache ... how to enable

I've read several blogs especially here http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2008/10/youre-reading-the-worlds-most-dangerous-programming-blog.html there are some advantages to using deflate zlib compression by comparison with gzip one.

I am trying to set up apache to descend only so that I can run some tests. However, I am having a hard time finding how to configure mod_deflate to do deflation rather than gzip.

Does anyone know the recording configuration options.

- Thanks.

It's impossible. Apache2 mod_deflate (confusingly) only supports gzip format .

As demonkoryu said, mod_deflate only supports gzip format.

In the above discussion of links to the disadvantages of using deflate instead of gzip, it seems that you are concerned about, in particular, browser support: http://www.vervestudios.co/projects/compression-tests/results
