Web application development with j2me

The main reason I would like to use j2me is because one of the main advantages is that it can access phone resources through various APIs. However, with the advent of new phones with web browsers such as Safari, Opera and Windows IE, it would be beneficial to create a web application so that the user does not have to download any software to their phone. Is there a way to create a web app that can also get phone resource information? Or maybe j2me converted to Javascript (if possible)?

You can make a link that will send SMS, but other than that there is no cross-platform api to access internal phones from the browser as far as I know.

So, if you need to access telephone resources, you will need to write a real application.

The webkit engine on recent Series60 phones has gained access to at least some of the phone resources.

Nokai calls it Web Runtime or WRT.
