Silverlight on OSX, does that mean Microsoft has ported a lot of the .NET Framework to OSX?

Silverlight runs on OSX and Silverlight uses the .NET Framework (at least most of it).

Does this mean that Microsoft actually ported the .NET Framework to OSX, but doesn't tell us? Or do you think that we will be able to adopt the official .NET Framework for OSX soon?

Most of .NET is in portable IL anyway. The important point is that they ported the CLR - and we knew they did it for a common CLI source (aka Rotor) after all .

I wouldn't expect an official version of .NET on Mac anytime soon, although I don't have any internal knowledge to the contrary, and I would love to see it, but I don't think it's likely.

There's a very good article on MSDN on how they refactored the CLR and .NET for Silverlight.
