Add gmail as smarthost to Debian exim4

I would like to know how to configure exim4 on Debian so that it can use gmail as a smarthost and not my ISP. It seems that TLS needs to be configured and of course the gmail userid and password. The "standard" example smarthost that ships with exim4 on Debian does not have this information.

The above solution didn't work for some reason, but the solution here worked for me.

The only change I made was to use xyz@mydomain.com

instead xyz@gmail.com

in the "begin authenticators" section.

First install stunnel4 and set it to display [127.0.0.1]:587

in smtp.gmail.com:465

the following way:

client=yes
[smtp-gmail]
accept = 587
connect = smtp.gmail.com:465

Then reconfigure exim4:

dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config

Configure exim4 to use a large number of small files, smarthost via localhost: 587

Modify / etc / exim4 / passwd.client and add:

localhost:yourname@gmail.com:yourpassword

Don't forget to check the permissions and then run:

update-exim4.conf

This should do it.
