Why was my css not working before adding to the project?
I have an asp.net mvc project and I have replaced the default css wizard created with the iui css and javascript package. They have been placed in the ~ / Content / iui / folder. When I launched the site through the dev webserver the css was not used. I managed to fix this by adding the iui folder to the project in the project explorer. This is all I did, pages already generated with script and style tags.
What's going on here? I'm sure MSVS is something behind the scenes and I would like to understand why it did it and why what I did created the behavior it did.

Look at the "property pages" for your website project (VS menu: website -> launch options). Under MSBuild Options, the Output Folder option is the path that Visual Studio Dev Web Server uses when it starts. Only files that are part of the project are copied to this directory.
This is why, although you added the files to fix the folder, this is not the one that the Dev webserver looked at.
