Retrieve row order from DataGrid 1.0

I am working with a legacy application which is .net 1.1 and I need to get rows in the post-datagrid sort (by clicking on the column header). It sounds like a simple task, but the answer seems to elude me. I can get rows from the dataset just fine, but they don't sort again when the header is clicked.
