An SVN server with Apache can let me access my files anywhere! Firefox looks different

I just installed Visual SVN Server and I just found that I can access my files using regular browsers like IE or Chrome.

I can even transfer the mp3 file from my home to my work this way ... or access any files at home if I forward the port to the Visual SVN server ...

although I noticed IE 8 will show a red background for the current url ... so the link is not easy to read ... Also Firefox just refused to open the page saying the certificate is self-signed. does anyone know for Firefox 3 to be able to open it?

When you get a screen that says "Secure Connection Failed" do the following:

  • There should be a link that says "Or you can add an exception ...". Click on this link.
  • Then click the Add Exception ... button.
  • Click the "Get Certificate" button
  • Make sure the "Persistently save this exception" checkbox is selected.
  • Click the Confirm Security button.

This piont will prompt you for your credentials and everything should work fine.

At the bottom of the page that talks about the certificate, there should be a link that says "Add an exception". Follow this link, click get / view certificate (sorry going out of memory) then add an exception.

Basically, it is just complaining about the origin of the SSL certificate. You can get rid of the red background in IE8 by adding a certificate there.

If you are using Windows Authentication for your repos, you should use https and not http to access those who have an svn client. For security reasons, neon (using default DAV library for subverting clients) disabled SSPI (Windows Authentication) for unencrypted connections.
