How compatible is jQuery 1.4 with IE8?
IE8 and jQuery 1.4 have been on the street for a long time. My project is using jQuery 1.4.1 and is about to start seeing IE8 users. So how does it work for people?
(I'm interested in answers that identify issues, pitfalls, considerations, etc., as opposed to yep-working-good-for-us.)

jQuery and IE8 work just fine :) jQuery doesn't have much IE code; he has been using the detection feature for a while. That means it is looking for "can this browser do this?" And not "is this browser x", then I guess it may or may not do it. "
That being said, there are checks in jQuery core that would not exist, but that weren't for IE quirks, but they may or may not be IE specific ... rather, they are for how a particular browser handles the DOM.
Biggest problem with jQuery 1.4.1 I see on SO often this change
event in IE7 and IE8, I find it mostly doesn't work with .live()
. In some cases this results in the usual odd behavior: unbinding isues , not propagation , etc. Decision? jQuery 1.4.2 , it fixed a lot of issues (including) and included the rewrite module . From the 1.4.2 release notes ::
The biggest internal changes came through a much needed restructuring of the event module. Many bizarre event binding issues have been addressed with these fixes.
