Google Analytics without ga.js

I cannot find anything recent. Is there any documentation on how to track with Google Analytics without using ga.js? I want to implement JS on mobile, but I don't want to load 9KB local memory or use server side GA. I am primarily interested only in tracking views and unique views. Has anyone rolled their own GA implementation?

Here's a detailed explanation of how it's done. http://www.developria.com/2011/01/hacking-air-for-android-22-goo.html

You can only track the use of the gif file.

To use GA without javascript ... do this by creating your own gif file and submitting some information to Google via our server. That is, we generate a gif, assign and track our own cookie, and then collect this information as we navigate the site and use an HTTP request with the appropriate query strings and pass it back to Google, which we then compile and process as regular old analytics.
