ASP.NET Server Controls

They are "server" controls because they are a server side abstraction. They are used as server-side controls in your ASPX pages and can be directly rendered in server-side code. However, in processing requests, they are translated and sent in response as standard HTML and (possibly) JavaScript. Thus, they are an abstraction that really only exists on the server side.
