Vibrations when breaking / repackaging a film

Please bear with me, I know what I am doing may sound strange, but I can guarantee there is a very good reason.

I shot a movie with my camera like avi. I imported the movie into iMovie and then blew up single frames in PNG format. Then I reinstalled these frames to mov using the following code

movie, error = QTMovie.alloc().initToWritableFile_error_(out_path, None)

mt = QTMakeTime(v, scale)
attrib = {QTAddImageCodecType: "jpeg"}

for path in png_paths:
    image = NSImage.alloc().initWithContentsOfFile_(path)
    movie.addImage_forDuration_withAttributes_(image, mt, attrib)
    movie.updateMovieFile()

The resulting mov works, but it looks like the frames are "jittery" and wobbly compared to the original avi, which looks smoother. The two files are roughly the same size, and both export and repackage took place at 30 frames per second. Photos are also aligned, so this is not due to random frame shifting.

My question is, after knowing the file formats and the process I followed, what is the likely reason for this result? How can I fix this?

One tutorial reason for "wobbly" images is problems in the field. Any chance you are working with bound material and have received your order in the field? This will lead to the results you described ...

How can you fix this using the API you are using (QTKit?), I am at a loss for lack of experience with it.
