Failed to install SQL Server 2008 Express / Developer edition on Windows Vista Ultimate (SP1)
I visited several forums and tried everything except wiping and reinstalling the OS when trying to install SQL Server 2008 Express; deleted a failed install every time, cleared the registry and install folder, disabled UAC, cleared the WMI repository, rebooted when required, etc.
Any solution would be greatly appreciated.

Looking at the excerpt from the .. /Logs/Detail.txt file below, it should come as no surprise that the Perfmon tool also causes the boot counters to crash. The Perfmon tool will run before installation and after cleaning up a failed SQL installation.
