How to remove translation in the gettext system?

Suppose a simple phrase "In"

in English should be interpreted as ""

- an empty string in Russian.

Can I specify this in a .po file?

What usually happens if you install msgstr ""

- you get the untranslated key, but I want nothing in this particular case.

Here's a use case: underneath the giant search bar, there is a set of buttons to select questions (for a Q&A site) from specific areas - for example:

(in English)

In: [all] [unanswered] [my own]

(in Russian I want)

[] [ ] []

It just sounds more natural. Yes, I can leave In

for english, but I dont want and I dont want the button (things in []

were buttons) html in the 'po' file.

Thanks!

U + 200B lasts one character but takes no space. Note that the fact that it is completely invisible will eventually lead someone towards you, so you might be better off with U + 200A or U + 2009, or even actual space.

printf(_("In: [%s] [%s] [%s]"), _("all"), _("unanswered"), _("my own"));

# russian .po:
msgid "In: [%s] [%s] [%s]"
msgstr "[%s] [%s] [%s]"
