Is there a way to create a link in a Datasheet view in Sharepoint?

We use Sharepoint to track / control our clients' processing. Basically there are elements that list each release and due date, and different groups should check this list daily and monitor their tasks and update the element.

Earlier, we created a data table view that makes it easy to see only our tasks and update them. Unfortunately, there is one more element that we need to see in order to complete our task. In standard view, we can show a link to this second item, but it doesn't seem like you can do it in the data table view ... which leaves us with the option to open both views and go back and forth to make customizations.

Is there a way to get this link in data view?

EDIT: Apparently I made a mistake in the question. The field in question is the search field for another item in sharepoint. In standard view, references to another element are just fine, but in data view it just appears as text. Is there a way for the Lookup field to appear as a link in the Datasheet view?

Unfortunately, it looks like you can't use the search box in calculated fields, and Excel view doesn't allow you to open the search item - it opens the combo with all the search items, but it doesn't open the item. However, there are some options that seem to work here too. Suppose your Tasks table has lookup fields in another Customers table.

  • A good option if customers only have very few columns is to add the calculated column to Customers with all data and use it to search. For example, if customers have columns Name

    and Phone

    , create another column that shows both: =[Name] & ", " & [Phone]

so you can see all the data in excel view (so you don't need a link).
  • Add another integer field to Tasks that only has a Client ID, and add the calculated field to Tasks with Formula ="http://yourserver/lists/clients/DispForm.aspx?ID=" & [ClientID]

. This will create a URL string that will work with the Excel view. So you will need to fill in the ClientID (which is not very convenient, I admit), or use JavaScript to automatically fill that column when you select a search (I did something similar, in fact).
  • As August suggested, use link instead of search. Again. it is less convenient than searching, but the easiest option is here.

I have no problem with this in the Datasheet view. Any link or email that I insert into a column with one line of text becomes a link in both standard and tabular form.
