Why doesn't SourceSafe respect the "Open this database next time ..." option?

Using the "Open SourceSafe Database ..." Visual SourceSafe command, there is an option "Open this database the next time Visual SourceSafe is started" at the bottom of the dialog box.

Typically, when checking this window, the last opened VSS DB opens immediately after starting VSS (even if it is a second instance of VSS).

I see that this option is not being respected. All VSS launches result in the same database being opened at startup.

Deleting all registry entries under HKLM\Software\Microsoft\SourceSafe\Databases

and HKCU\Software\Microsoft\SourceSafe\Databases

does not help.

Also, the value HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Sourcesafe\Current Database

exactly pointed to the DB that I wanted to open, but the DB that was VSS was not actually opened. The same with a similar value in HKLM

.

An environment variable has been set which will force this particular database.

When SSDIR is set, the VSS dialog option is ignored.

Removing the SSDIR variable fixes the problem.
