Display arbitrary size bitmap without running out of memory

How to display an image of arbitrary size without OOMing or zoom out. I don't want to zoom out because of scaling and dragging the image?

If it is not possible to display an image of arbitrary size, how can I determine the maximum possible size of the displayed image without calling OOM?

Bitmap data resides on the natural heap, not the VM heap. see the BitmapFactory OOM driving me nuts for details on how to keep track of the natural heap and how a large bitmap can get without hitting OOM.
