A good GUI management system certainly helps. Here are a few links to two of my favorites - both of which are available as free editions, but there is no shortage.

SQLyog Community Edition . A very simple interface that does everything I need 98% of the time without unnecessary baggage. There is a commercial version which is quite expensive and adds some additional useful control features.

Toad for MySQL . Well respected and somewhat more powerful than SQLyog. There are versions of Toad for MSSQL and Oracle too.

Perhaps you need a GUI designer, something like MySQL workbench ? Others I've heard about:

Yes, the thread seems almost outdated, but since no one has said this, I suggest Navicat http://www.navicat.com/ . It has a powerful query builder and cross platform ...

The easiest way (at the end) is to learn how to write and modify mysql queries. It can be tricky for the first 50 queries you write, but after that you are glad you know mysql on your own instead of relying on the GUI

I am using xampp for PHP based website development. phpMyAdmin is a very simple drag n drop visualization tool to perform MySQL tasks based on clicks only. There is no need to write long Queries. Plus, Xampp is free, so there are no licensing issues.
