How do I go from my WAMP environment to using MSSQL?

I have WAMP environment installed on my local PC (using WampServer OS). Now I will need to change one script to work from MySQL to MSSQL. I don't know at all how to proceed, where to download MSSQL, how to install it and how to connect to PHP? Many thanks

Start with Sql Server running. If you are using an old copy of Sql Server (pre-2005) you need to make sure ntwdblib.dll is present in your System32 directory and removed from your PHP dll directory (ntwdblib.dll is installed using corporate tools, so you may have to install them and to your PHP block). After Mssql query is correct, start searching where Mssql differs from MySql in the code.

A few tips:

  • ntwdblib doesn't accept long lines (I think it's 4k limited, but don't quote me on that). You should use Stored Procs if you are trying to process a string longer than 4k.
  • Try using Sql Server 2005 if you can (see above), ntwdblib.dll is ancient and has many problems.
  • The PHP site is your friend for mssql .
