My site is switching between OK & Error 'ASP 0115'

My ASP website is acting strange: 70% of the time it works fine. 30% this message is displayed

Error active server pages "ASP 0115"

Unexpected error

/index.asp

An error occurred using a trap (C0000005) in an external object. script cannot continue.

Never changed anything, what's the problem?

ASP error 0115 (and error C0000005 for that matter) might correspond to a permissions issue. Microsoft has a KB article on how to troubleshoot the error, which is here:

When the error shows up on the returned ASP page, you know:

  • The page that caused the problem.
  • An exception occurred in an external object.
