Python interpreter with Linux screen
I was working with Python with a Linux terminal screen . When I typed:
help(somefunction)
It printed the appropriate output, but then my screen got stuck and at the bottom of the terminal was "(end)".
How do I peel off? Thanks in advance.

It is standard for GNU (or other Unix-like) systems to use an environment variable PAGER
for a command that must receive output to view one screen ("page") at a time .
I have it set to:
$ echo $PAGER
less
You may have more
either a different command installed or not installed at all, in which case the general default command will be used.
It looks like your image is modeled after the program more
. The program will show you the step-by-step output, in which case it will tell you that you are at the end.
Most of them (basically any pager is more modern than that more
) allow you to navigate back and forth on exit with the arrow keys (arrow keys and PgUp
/ PgDown
) and many other operations besides.
Since you can do all of this wherever you are, the program needs an explicit command from you to find out what you did , navigate the weekend. In all likelihood, this command is a key press q
.
For more details on how to operate the pager, for example less
read its man page with the command man less
(which of course will show the output pages with the pager program :-)
