Editing files remotely on the network
I'd love to have the RAID array sit somewhere on the internet and just use it for media storage - essentially, I want to play and edit files transparently no matter if I'm working at work or at home.
Is it possible? I look at various NAS solutions like this , and while they all advertise iTunes streams and FTP access, I would like to make the move and the files are available as if they were on a local hard drive, and without local caching like Dropbox, since we're talking about terabytes of media, not multiple documents.

You can do this with ssh. I don't think NAS will necessarily help if you want to get your files on your home network from your work network. It might even be a good idea. Here is a tutorial on SSH
