Why do I need a simple one?

I am creating a simple location based service where users will know something near them based on their positions. I've heard a lot about simplegeo, but I can't figure out exactly where I would need their maintenance. Their website doesn't seem to help either with regard to product descriptions. Can anyone enlighten me on how to fit in?
